A Different Kind of Strategy

Though we are no longer actively planting, you might nevertheless be interested in the particular strategy we used.

Northwest Anglican used a church-planting model that is:

  • nonprofit-supported
  • laity-driven
  • reverse-ordered
  • cross-affiliated

Below is the timeline we used, which we found workable under the right circumstances.

  • Months 1-2: Worship gatherings, focusing on fellowship.
  • Months 3-4: Worship gatherings, discussing parish identity.
  • Month 5: Worship gatherings, discussing planting logistics.
  • Months 6-7: Worship gatherings, discussing desired clergy.
  • Month 8: Interviewing prospective clergy.
  • Month 9: Clergy called.
  • Month 10: Clergy installed.
  • Beyond: Parish gets established, NwA supporting.

Lastly, Proverbs 16.9 reads, The heart of a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. When church planting, one trusts that the Lord has worked a plan into one's heart and that he will establish our steps. Nevertheless, the call is to continually listen to him, remembering that our plans must always bend to his purposes. Our exhortation to all planters is to: Pursue your plans doggedly while holding them loosely.
